Hydnellum scrobiculatum (Fr. ex Secr.) Karst var. Hydnellum scrobiculatum var. zonatum (Batsch ex Fr.) Harrison Grubige Korkstacheling Rigid Tooth Fruit body single or fused together. Cap 3-6cm across, funnel-shaped to flattened, to thin at margin, concentrically zonate; pinkish at margin, darker rusty cinnamon elsewhere. Spines on undersurface very short, crowded; dark vinaceous cinnamon. Stem 5-30 x 5-25mm, single or compound; concolorous with cap. Flesh fibrous, tough, zonate; light reddish brown. Odor slight. Taste mild. Spores subglobose, tuberculate, 4.5-5.5 x 4-4.5µ. Deposit dull brown. Habitat in mixed woods. Common. Found in Europe and widespread throughout North America. Season August-September. Inedible. |
